Bok discards boost WP
Gio Aplon and Francois Louw will start for Western Province in their clash against the Cheetahs on Friday.
Aplon and Louw, who featured against the All Blacks last weekend, were left out of the Springbok match 22 for this Saturday’s clash against the Wallabies and were released to play Currie Cup rugby.
Aplon replaces JJ Engelbrecht at wing while Francios Louw steps in for the injured Pieter Louw (rib) at openside flank. Nick Koster also returns to the starting line-up as Rynhardt Elstadt dislocated his thumb against the Sharks last weekend.
WP - 15 Conrad Jantjes, 14 Gio Aplon, 13 Tim Whitehead, 12 Paul Bosch, 11 Frikkie Welsh, 10 Willem de Waal, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Nick Koster, 6 Francois Louw, 5 Anton van Zyl (c), 4 Adriaan Fondse, 3 Brok Harris, 2 Tiaan Liebenberg , 1 Wicus Blaauw.
Subs: 16 Deon Fourie, 17 JD Moller, 18 Buhle Mxunyelwa, 19 De Kock Steenkamp, 20 Pieter Myburgh, 21 Conrad Hoffmann, 22 Lionel Cronje.
Cheetahs bench Nel
The Cheetahs will start Kobus Calldo ahead of WP Nel at tighthead prop for their match against Western Province on Friday.
Nel has featured in most of the Cheetahs’ Super 14 and Currie Cup fixtures this season, but has been dropped to the wood for the trip to Newlands.
Head coach Naka Drotske has also made two other changes to his run-on side. Francois Uys shifts from blindside flank to lock as Izak van der Westhuizen drops to the bench. Philip van der Walt will start in the No 7 jersey.
Cheetahs – 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Philip Snyman, 13 Robert Ebersohn, 12 Meyer Bosman, 11 Jongi Nokwe, 10 Louis Stydom, 9 Tewis de Bruyn, 8 Ashley Johnson, 7 Philip van der Walt, 6 Hendro Scholtz, 5 Walti Vermereulen, 4 Francois Uys, 3 Kobus Calldo, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Coenie Oosthuizen.

@grant10(grant10)-43: Let’s see what happens at the business end of the season. If Sharks take the CC, then I will agree, but for now I am happy with AC’s conservative approach. The other plus for me is that I think we have the players to play both styles

@ufo(ufo)-50:
I was under the impression he would be used as a scrumhalf at the Sharks – I agree that he should rather have stayed if they are going to use him as a utility.
I am however not so sure that he will get a lot of time at scrumhalf for the Stormers – The bloke with the weight problem will be back.

@wernergreeff fanclub membership 3(wernergreeff fanclub membership 1)-51: fair enough.

@Stoan(Stoan)-42: @grant10(grant10)-43: i don’t know if it is indeed being conservative because AC called up (‘the outrageously talented’ – WP_
) 19yr old matt to’omua and played him in the currie cup and did everything possible to get to be eligible to play in the semis!
Why trust a kiwi protege but be circumspect with the saffa ’2009 u21 player of the year’? It’s ridiculous

@Robzim(Robzim)-52:
apparently that’s what was reported… (him being used as a utility back)…
yeah… but everyone has to wait their chance and an injury changes things very quickly…

@Transformation(Transformation)-54: Toomua an aussie….but ja….cant understand it really…

@Transformation(Transformation)-55:
The “outrageously talented” Aussie at least never lost his head and punched a bloke outside a pub
Cronje seems a bit “reckless” and it shows in his play – At this stage it will be one hell of a risk to let him start even against a second string cc side in a competition where every bonus point is going to be vital to ensure a home final.

@Robzim(Robzim)-60:
And his goal kicking is atrocious to say the least.

@Robzim(Robzim)-60: quade cooper got drunk and burgled a house but he is a wallabie and the reds play him
25 Aug 2010, 11:08 am
@Transformation(Transformation)-63:
But we have higher values here in SA
Quade is special – he can nearly walk on water – Even the conservative Alister would probably have turned a blind eye.

@Transformation(Transformation)-63: Maybe they’ve got their eye on him as an extra “fetcher”

WP boys calling Deysel a donkey?
This is the same guy who bitchslapped the Stormers in May when we beat them. On form only Juan Smith is ahead of him in the country at blindside flank.
He’s just injury prone.

Hmmm… I noticed a few WP bloggers mentioned Grant for S15. Isn’t he overseas on a 2 year contract?

@King Shaka(zulu shark)-68: The truth.
