Saru plan PdV review process

Saru will undertake their annual review of the Springboks’ Tri-Nations performances and Peter de Villiers’ comments in the media.

The review will take place later this month and covers all aspects of the Boks and De Villiers’ performances. Saru president Regan Hoskins said that there will also be formal discussions regarding De Villiers’ comments that the Boks supported murder accused Bees Roux 100%.

In an attempt to clean up De Villiers’ mess, Hoskins said that he had written a letter to the family of dead policeman Johannes Mogale to show the union’s support and send their condolences.

‘All rugby followers are extremely disappointed with results in the Tri-Nations, as are the Springbok team and management, of course,’ said Hoskins. ‘We take the situation very seriously but there is a process in place and we will follow that through.’

Saru won’t comment further until the review is complete.

@mountaingoat(mountaingoat)-45: agreed, there are more issues than just replacing PDV, however thinking would be that a stronger coach would get the other aspects resolved …

Worst case they hopefully at least appoint a worthwhile defensive coach, plus a conditioning expert

@SodaJoe(SodaJoe)-49: jake won the 3nations in 2004…did nothing after that bar big losses (read zero scores) against auzz & AB’s…then the WC

Probably not so good, but at least he chose wisely! PdV could choose his team and chose the worst of the worst. He needs to take accountability

@mountaingoat(mountaingoat)-52: I was not a big fan of Jake White. Bless him for winning the RWC, and rebuilding the Boks. But his record is quite average.

Winning the RWC 3 years ago gives me little comfort wen we lose badly in 2010.

    We need a new coach.

This is my personal opinion, PdV is not half the coach Jake White was, not a third the coach Nick Mallet is, and should not even be coaching the ball boys in games coached by Graham Henry & Robbie Deans. Or John Mitchell.

  • 68.danuk: Reply to this comment

@mountaingoat(mountaingoat)-60: yeah, definitely not divvy’s fault on his own, just seems:

    1. He and his coaching team are not tactically astute. It took them 3 games to realise and adjust to the quicker pace of play AND realise that they cannot choose out of form players for the 3Ns

    2. He does not have the experience/confidence to manage his senior players and to make hard calls to drop them, ala WO initially, Smit, Habana, etc. This is not just him though, the selectors also come into play here

    3. He needs to realise what his says causes unneeded ****. Even if he feels he is right he should realise as an international coach that he needs to check what he says

… all of the above unfortunately has nothing to do with talent, rather experience at the most senior level …

  • 69.danuk: Reply to this comment

also, he does not seem to want to admit that there are issues after any of the losses … that irritates me

  • 73.danuk: Reply to this comment

@JL1(JL1)-71: would our Super 14 team’s defensive coaches not help here? They played under the same rules?

Also it’s probably conditioning as well …

The boks at the moment reminds me of England and the lack basics they’ve shown over the last 7 odd years, however their premiership teams played ok

    Where is Phil Mack..

  • 77.Puma: Reply to this comment

    @JL1(JL1)-75: You can add,

    Lambie
    Jantjies
    Basson
    Mvovo
    Hougaard
    J. de Jongh
Mapoe (when he can play again)
    Alberts
    Deysel
    Vermuelen
    Brussow
    Beast
    Sykes
    Bismarck
Flip (though he cost us with that penalty yesterday. He is young he will learn)
Bekker is still young too will come back better

    We have plenty talent.

    They all under 25.

I know Frans Steyn is not really game fit, but when he is you can add him too. He is only 23 at the moment. Also the Cheetahs FB is playing great, add him too.

We lack coaches. Put our pride in our pockets and select a kiwi coach. Mitchell and Plum would do just fine. With them there we could cook red hot with those players. Those above for after wc 2011.

  • 79.Puma: Reply to this comment

@JL1(JL1)-74: Never a 7 man selection panel. Not here in SA they would just confuse it even more…….hahahaha.

We do need a conditioning coach, and a defensive coach and any really that we can think of. PdV should equip himself with all the best he can. Nothing wrong with that. BUT has to get rid of Muir and Gold.

  • 80.Puma: Reply to this comment

@JL1(JL1)-78: Was typing 4 names and looke up there again. Then thought actually all of them if they kept on playing at top level. They all need a good time at S15 and then Bok level. Not a once off but let them play together for a season. They are all class.

I also liked Louw but after seeing him with the Boks was not impressed. BUT think with better coaching he would be great. Also he needs more time at top level (International Level) So maybe him too. More game time the better you get at such a young age. NOT over played but played enough to get confidence and game time.

We have plenty talent but NO great coach coming though. Get those two kiwi coaches coach those players I mentioned above. We would have a super duper world class team. Of course we need a TH there too. Can’t think of any just yet.

Remember last year we had. Potties at 6, Deysel at 7 and Vermeulen at 8 in the E.Boks against the BIL. They were awesome.

Alberts is a magnficent player he could fit in too. Such power, like a machine he is.

Anyhow just mentioned some names. They could all fit in superb with a decent coach/es

    nothing new here…

    Jones sticks knife in

Former Wales captain Kingsley Jones hopes
Jake White stays as coach to ensure
    continued problems for the Springboks.
Jones believes that Wales have nothing to
fear in France with possible quarter-final
opponents being either England or South
    Africa.

The current Sale Sharks hopes South African
rugby bosses don ’t cave in to the pressure
and sack under-fire coach Jake White after
    the Boks humbling Brisbane whitewash.

“As a coach all you can do is get the best
out of players but the way they have been
playing suggests he is not, ” Jones told

Western Mail rugby writer Andy Howell.

“Sometimes you need a change of coach
because a new face can often get a bit more
out of people, and Jake has been there for a
fair time. But I hope he doesn ’t get the sack
because we don’t want that to happen. We
want South Africa’s problems to grow and
    grow,” he said.

Jones is clearly out for revenge on the
Springboks after he was skipper of an
    injury-decimated Wales squad which
suffered a record 96-13 defeat against the
Springboks eight years ago and he would
like nothing better than Jenkins ’ men to beat
them at the World Cup next year.

He also seems to have forgotten that the
Welsh are in a bit of strife themselves
having surrendered their Six Nations crown
and crashed to a 2-0 Test-series defeat to
    Argentina last month.

“Look, it’s a good time to be playing South
Africa and England and it’s an opportunity
for Wales to have a real crack at the World
Cup. New Zealand and France are the
obvious favourites – the French are mine
because they have home advantage –
    but
Wales have got the players to trouble
    anybody.

“We played some great rugby when we
won the Grand Slam last year. As long as we
can get and keep our best players fit, we’ve
got a great chance of making an impact
with the talent we ’ve got,” Jones added.

PdV absolutely MUST remain as coach for the Boks for at least the next 5 years. Without him, SA rugby may be in a position where they will not be in a position to blame cheaters, crooked refs, corrupt international organisations or overweight players for any loses…because they probably wont lose too many games (unless they play the AB’s of course…they should be able to keep their 40% win/loss ration against the All Blacks from dropping further)
Without PdV, SA rugby would be in danger of rising (near) to the top of world rugby, and that should be discouraged at all costs.
So, what the NZRU and ARU should be rying out loud and clear is…” we are behind PdV 100%!”

  • 94.TheTackler: Reply to this comment

Oz and NZ don’t want an easybeat contaminating their 3N. If this goes on, SA will be told rather to shove off and play in the weak European tournament, and be replaced by Argentina.

However I prefer your wording “conditioning”.We were thoroughly beaten by a better conditioned team yesterday.Every move was done at full pace and with determination. The Aussies were just much sharper than us . This is the fault of the coach primarily! Then it becomes the responsibility of his deputies and then down the ladder.

PLEASE have a look at Spies when you watch the game again. He is the typical example of someone who is either very unfit or couldn’t care a damn.He leaves tackles for the man next to him or in one incident actually jumps aside to avoid contact.NEVER did he run at full pace to cover .Two of the Aussie tries could either have been prevented or at least pushed into the corner to make the conversion kick more difficult. He doesn’t feel like playing rugby at the moment.Get him back to his province to get either rested ,sharpened or conditioned.

The same goes for others in the team including coaching staff

I would fully support the SARU if they did ditch Clown PdV and install Crazy Horse Mitchell as coach.

The two of them would have Fascinating conversations…would love to be a fly on teh wall for those.

I am not always the optimist (when it comes to SA Rugby administration) BUT I think this is the first step in a process to get rid of PDV. You cannot sack the Bok coach and not have a suitabel replacement. Gold and Muir are not otherwise either of them would have been obvious choices. The hunt is on for a new coach but such is the absurdity of the position that there are not many candidates ready to play politics and sport at the smae time. Whilst many have been calling fro PDV, Muir and Gold’s respective heads not too many names are being mentioed as replacements.

It cannot be a foreigner – simply because a foreigner wouldn’t understand the whole political quota thing.

Could someone please list the 5 obvious candidates becuase I am struggling here?
