Wallabies latest – Genia, O’Connor back

Keo.co.za brings you updates from Australia’s year end tour.

Genia, O’Connor back – The Wallabies are expected to recall scrumhalf Will Genia and wing James O’Connor for the Test against France in Paris on Saturday.

Genia missed the Test against Italy with a rib injury, while O’Connor flew home to attend the funeral of a close friend. Berrick Barnes is likely to retain the goalkicking duties despite O’Connor’s return.

Luke Burgess and Lachie Turner are set to be relegated to the bench.

Cooper happy with defensive effort - Quade Cooper says he hopes his defensive performance against Italy is the start of him exorcising those demons.

Cooper’s defence was criticised by coach Robbie Deans prior to the Test in Florence, and he responded well. ‘I was keen to pick up in my defence. I wasn’t too pleased with myself the week before, and so this week really wanted to get out there and defend hard. I just wanted to kick, run and defend well,’ he said.

‘I was pretty happy with my defence, but it is just one game, and one slight improvement. If I start doing that week-in, week-out then I will be happy.’

France pick ‘petulant child’ – France have included Fulgence Ouedraogo in their loose trio despite coach Marc Lievremont openly criticising his behaviour.

Ouedraogo threw a tantrum after being omitted for the Test against Argentina last week prompting the coach to call him ‘a petulant child’. However, that didn’t stop him from including him for the Stade de France fixture against Australia.

‘We could have gone for the power option we used against Argentina, while there was also the more mobile option with [Julien] Bonnaire at No.8, [Thierry] Dusautoir and Fulgence,’ he said.

‘And then there was the other way, the one we chose, with two No.10 hunters [Dusautoir and Ouedraogo] and the power of Sebastien Chabal.’

France - 15 Jerome Porical, 14 Yoann Huget, 13 Aurelien Rougerie, 12 Yannick Jauzion, 11 Alexis Palisson, 10 Damien Traille, 9 Morgan Parra, 8 Sebastien Chabal, 7 Fulgence Ouedraogo, 6 Thierry Dusautoir (c), 5 Lionel Nallet, 4 Julien Pierre, 3 Nicolas Mas, 2 William Servat, 1 Thomas Domingo.
Subs: 16 Guilhem Guirado, 17 Jerome Schuster, 18 Jerome Thion, 19 Julien Bonnaire, 20 Dimitri Yachvili, 21 Fabrice Estebanez, 22 Marc Andreu.

Cant see the Aussie beating the Frogs. Unless the Frogs dont show up at all.

    Is this their strongest team??

Where is Barcella?? Clerc? Medard? Mermoz? Heymans? Trinh-duc? Dupuy?

I think 2011 is the year the French win the world cup. Beating NZ in the final.

    France’s selection policy is mystifying.
I guess it must have something to to with the extraordinary amount of rugby their players play in a given year.
But still picking quality players only some of the time compounds their tendency to be inconsistent.
    Still:

    1. Barcella
    2. Servat
    3. Marconnet
    4. Chabal
    5. Nallet
    6. Dussoituar
    7. Bonnaire
    8. Harindordoquy
    9. Parra
    10. Trin-Duc
    11. Malzieu
    12. Jauzion
    13. Basteraud
    14. Clerc
    15. Potrenaud

    16. Mas
    17. Szarzesky
    18. Thion
    19. Ouedreago
    20. Yachvilli
    21. Traille
    22. Rougerrie

When on song, this team can challenge and beat any other!

@Butchie(Butchie) : O’Connor got a hat-trick on debut and is, by now, a seasoned test campaigner. Lambie’s start has been a stutter at best and a stall at worst and PDV clearly has no confidence in him. Two very different stories thanks to two very different coaches — one who knows what he’s doing and the other clueless.
