Bok emblem makes its move

The Springboks’ World Cup jersey has been unveiled.
Not only has the Bok emblem moved to the left sleeve but it is half the size of the Protea emblem.
As keo.co.za reported in May 2009, the IRB Rugby World Cup logo has to appear on the right-hand side of all teams’ jerseys at the tournament. Saru asked the IRB to make an exception for the Boks, but the world governing body refused to budge, which means the Protea (the official emblem of all South African national sports teams) is on the left-hand side of the jersey and the Bok emblem on the left sleeve.
Saru, to its credit, did everything it could to keep the Bok on the chest. It put the Bok emblem above the Protea on the left-hand side of the Springbok Women’s jersey for their 2010 World Cup campaign, but this was rejected by Sascoc (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee) before the tournament began. Saru then had to put a green patch with the Protea over both emblems (to cover them up) and moved the Bok to the sleeve.
There was speculation that Canterbury could move its logo from the middle of the jersey to the sleeve to make room for the Bok, but this has failed to materialise.
The logo of new sponsors Absa is not allowed to be on the Bok jersey for the World Cup.

Ie: “SBW should have got a yellow’ “Maybe but did you see Bissy’s leading elbow”. Sorry thought you’d pick up what I was getting at…
