Canes geared for SA tour
18 Feb 2012
The Hurricanes named a 25-man squad that will face the Stormers and Lions in the next fortnight.
Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett selected a near full-strength squad as only two players will miss the away fixtures because of injury. Scrumhalf Chris Smylie and South African-born prop Reg Goode are sidelined after the 23-19 pre-season win over the Chiefs on Friday and will remain home. All Blacks centre Conrad Smith will captain the team.
The Wellington franchise will face the Stormers (25 February) and Lions (2 March) in South Africa in the opening weeks of Super Rugby. They will also tackle the Force in Perth (9 March) on the road.
Hurricanes 25-man squad for SA tour:
Backs: Chris Eaton, TJ Perenara, Beauden Barrett, Daniel Kirkpatrick, Tim Bateman, Charlie Ngatai, Conrad Smith (c), Alapati Leiua, Julian Savea, Andre Taylor, Cory Jane.
Forwards: Dane Coles, Motu Matu’u, Ben May, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Michael Bent, Tristan Moran, Jason Eaton, James Broadhurst, Jeremy Thrush, Victor Vito, Jack Lam, Faifili Levave, Brad Shields, Scott Fuglistaller.

The lions game will be easy but the Stormers one will be tough.

Lions would not mind being the underdogs I’m sure.

@ Cane, the level of the Currie Cup and Super Rugby is a big difference, but I still believe the current starting 15 of the Lions can and will be hard to beat for a traveling team..

@cane(cane)-3:
What’s the significance of “Curried” Cup?

@Shark(Predawn)-5:
It’s the only Cup left in the R of SA.

well compare the starting lineup of the Canes last year to this one.
Us Hurricane fans cant take any team lightly this year at all.
If we come out of SA with two wins, it could give us the confidence that we need.
With this team, if we lose every game in SA, we will be near bottom table.
As the famous Beatles once said
I got a feeling,
a feeling deep inside oh yeah

Just wait,
Until Jonker/Craig Joubert will do to you the ‘Bryce’, the Hurricane will regret not contacting Pietie v Zyl ahead of their tour

@Hondo(Hondo)-9: Ag, Jonker already did to Canes ar “barnesey’ 3 years ago at the Shark Tank. When Sharks were down guess how they got a try from the quick throw-in while the PROPER ball was high in the stands.

I read in my local Wellington paper about that Reg Goode ..could turn to be a future All Black..
great prospect..

yep..my hurricanes are not the force they once were(at least on paper anyway)and am not optimistic of them winning many games..Lions included..i hope they prove me wrong…!

Canes will be the measuring stick of NZ rugby depth .

Yip also interested to see Reggie Goodes in action.Former Affies student.Some writer on stuff.co.nz compared him to a young Tony Woodcock.Good prospect who may yet wear Black 1 day!

Goodes should be Goode (speaking of which,has there ever been a worse 10 than Andy Goode in the history of Super rugby?)
