Eddie Jones says that Fourie du Preez is playing some of the best rugby of his career and would add terrific value to Heyneke Meyer's Springbok team. The Boks' World Cup failure marked a gutting end for retirees such as Victor Matfield, while Danie Rossouw, Bakkies Botha and Du Preez departed New Zealand with the knowledge that their Test playing days were almost certainly done. Alan Solomons says the Southern Kings have the necessary plans in place that will make them competitive in Super Rugby next year. There have been mixed reactions following the confirmation of the Kings' admission to Super Rugby for 2013. The Eastern Cape franchise has been given a free ride into the tournament, despite Saru not being sure of how they will be accommodated along with the country's five other teams: the Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. Rose gets EP chance

The EP Kings have taken former Griquas flyhalf Earl Rose on a month-long trial. The 28-year-old was released by Griquas at the end of the 2011 Currie Cup campaign after only spending one season with the Kimberley union. Rose will now hope to impress First Division losing finalists the EP Kings over the next four weeks to earn a contract. The Springboks will play Argentina in their first game of next year's Rugby Championship, the four-team southern-hemisphere tournament replacing the existing Tri-Nations. Stuart Lancaster has named an unchanged match 22 for England's next Six Nations Test against Italy. England beat Scotland 13-6 last week without producing a particularly convincing performance. Williams to hang boots for good

Former Wales wing Shane Williams will retire from all rugby at the end of the European season. The 34-year-old ended his Test career against the Wallabies in Cardiff last December. He then signed a contract extension with his club Ospreys until the end of the 2013 season, but both parties have agreed to release the veteran from the deal a year early. Ospreys have announced that Williams will then take up an ambassadorial role at the club, where he 'will promote rugby in and around the region whilst also working in conjunction with the Ospreys' existing and future commercial partners'. Shimlas thrashed defending champions UCT 38-10 while Maties, Pukke and Tuks won their matches in the opening round of the Varsity Cup. At the Green Mile in Cape Town, Shimlas hooker PW van Vuuren, No 8 Fanie van der Walt and scrumhalves Kevin Luiters and Pieter Rademan secured the students from Free State a bonus-point win. Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu has replaced the injured Paul Delport with Renfred Dazel for the Las Vegas tournament. Delport has returned to South Africa after picking up a cheekbone injury at the Wellington Sevens, where the Blitzboks won the Plate title (5th place). This sees 30-year-old Dazel, who has featured at 35 tournaments, as the only change to the team that featured in New Zealand. The Blitzboks won the Cup title in Las Vegas last season, and will defend their title this weekend. The International Rugby Board are considering hosting some of Wales' World Cup matches in 2015 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. England won the right to host the event and organisers are expected to make use of some of the country's numerous world-class football stadia.
