Coca-Cola Craven Week thriller
The Lions and Western Province produced a thrilling 13-all draw at the Coca-Cola Craven Week at St Stithians.
The Lions, dominated by players from KES and Monument, will watch the tape of the match and wonder how they didn’t win. It was partly down to ill-discipline and poor decision making but it was also due to the magnificent defensive effort of Western Province.
Province lead 5-0 after a minute and controlled the match for the next 15 minutes. Thereafter it was all the Lions, but they had nothing to show on the scoreboard.
Province again were sensational in the opening minute of the second half to extend the lead to 10-nil and again the hosts took control.
They scored twice and added a penalty to lead 13-10 with five minutes to play, but having dominated 70 percent of possession they should have been out of reach.
They weren’t and WP salvaged a draw in the final few minutes and both teams remained unbeaten.
It was a fantastic match worthy of a final.
