Brendan Venter urges error-ridden England to “Go back to basics”

Brendan Venter, who acted as a defensive consultant for the Springboks last year, has urged England to “go back to basics” for the third and final clash between the two sides at Newlands on Saturday.

Venter expressed in a column for Rugby Pass that he believes the England side has “completely lost confidence.” A justified statement as England have now lost 6 successive tests, the latest seeing them lose the series against the Boks.

“England need to simplify what they are doing,” Venter wrote. England, in his opinion, have been making too many errors and he urged them  to adopt a conservative approach again

“I believe they must become more conservative in order to regain their confidence. England have become too expansive in terms of style and they are making so many errors at the moment, as they are a team bereft of confidence.”

Venter also called for Owen Farrell’s reinstatement at flyhallf, writing,”George Ford at flyhalf is not the answer.”

“The bottom line is that England aren’t in play at the minute because they’re making too many errors,” he concluded.
