Japanese World Cup victory over Boks to be made into a movie
Japan’s historic 34-32 win over the Springboks in the 2015 Rugby World Cup, under the coaching of Eddie Jones, will now be turned into a movie.
It has been just over three years since Heyneke Meyer’s Springboks were shocked by the brave Japanese performance that rocked the rugby world in what is considered to be possibly rugby’s greatest upset.
According to Kyodo News the historic moment will be turned into a film, to be directed by award winning Australian director Max Mannix, with he suggested name “The Brighton Miracle”.
What Eddie Jones and his team did in 2015 was truly magnificent and worthy of being remembered,” Mannix said.
“The story goes beyond rugby in the same way Chariots of Fire wasn’t just about running. That was more a film about the distinction between class, belief and religion.
“No one gave the Japan team a chance against South Africa, who at the time were the most successful World Cup team in history. The result was celebrated around the world.
“What I want to do is try and show why it happened and where did the self-belief come from.”
Sport 24 released a picture of the actor chosen to play Eddie Jones. 57 year old New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison has been cast in the role (picture below).

Filming is expected to begin in January 2019.
