Baby Bok is STECO Hybrid Power Tool Hero
Talking hybrid, this week’s winner is built like a prop, but scores like a centre.
There were so many South African contenders from the United Rugby Championship, but The STECO Hybrid Power Tool Hero of the Week is a baby Bok yet to play a senior professional match.
Keo and Zels, each week, pick a player whose contribution is the very definition of a Hybrid Power Tool
Zels: I’m breaking the rules again this week, mate. It’s not a URC player. I’ve chosen Ethan Adams, Junior Bok powerhouse. He is built like an outdoor toilet ablution block. The guy is as wide as he is tall. Massive quads. Just a big unit.
‘He scored our opener against Argentina in the U20 Sanzaar Rugby Championship. I think he beat two guys with his feet and probably four guys with his body. He’s just an absolute powerhouse inside centre. And he scored a great try. That’s my choice.
Keo: What’s the hybrid nature around him?
Zels: He’s built like a prop, but scores like a centre.
HE CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL
Keo: OK, you make a compelling argument, but I’m going to make a counter-argument, even if a losing one. The Iceman, Handré Pollard, in the Bulls win against the Scarlets in the URC. He ran a great support line to score one of the most amazing tries in the context of how it unfolded.
David Kriel literally lost his shirt along the way. First, Embrose Papier gets rocked, but somehow gets the offload away. Harold Vorster is integral to the movement. He takes the ball from Kriel, goes upfield, supports again, gets the pass back to Pollard, who looks like a spring chicken in being there to score. And if you talk hybrid, then you are talking Pollard.
But that was over the weekend. As always just when I think there’s the STECO Hybrid Power Tool moment, another player pulls in and beats it.
Ethan Adams it is. I can’t go against any Junior Bok.
Zels: Yes! Great shout. Finally!
