Heyneke’s global Schools’ festival
South Africa, thanks to former Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer and Paarl Boys High, will host the first ever extended World Schools Tournament featuring the best of the best.
There have been other international Schools Rugby festivals, most notably the Sanyo Challenge in Japan, but none on the scale that Meyer is putting together.
Meyer has teamed up with South Africa’s No 1 Rugby School Paarl Boys High for a global Schools Rugby Festival that will combine South Africa’s Top 10 Schools against 10 of the world’s best, including a handful from New Zealand.
Meyer confirmed to NZHerald’s Liam Napier that South Africa’s Top 10 have agreed to take part in the proposed April, 2018 event, to be hosted at Paarl Boys High. Meyer has invited 25 New Zealand Schools and there are also invites to neighbouring African countries like Namibia and Zimbabwe, as well as Schools from the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Argentina and Australia.
