International Rugby
World Rugby’s Super Saturday – North nails South
Ireland, England, Italy and Scotland landed the early blows for the Northern Hemisphere in the Autumn internationals as there was more pain for the Pacific Islands. Australia, in beating Wales for the 13th successive time, and the All Blacks with a 11th successive win against France produced the Southern Hemisphere highlights.
Ireland hammered the Springboks in a record-breaking 38-3 in Dublin after leading 14-0 at half-time.
England laboured to a 21-8 win against the Pumas, who didn’t win a game in the Rugby Championship.
England led 14-3 at halftime and despite only adding the one try in the second half were never in trouble.
The Pumas were again guilty of ill-discipline and very poor goal kicking in missing three easy penalties and a conversion.
Italy beat Fiji 19-10 and Scotland edged Samoa 44-38 after leading 32-10 early in the second half.
Samoa produced a thrilling second half comeback but had just too much to make up to stun the Scots at a packed Murrayfield.
The Wallabies continued their recent good form with a 28-21 win in Cardiff while the All Blacks beat France 38-18 after leading 31-5 at halftime.
The All Blacks scored five tries to two and in the process became the first team to score 2000 tries in Test rugby.
Tonga, on Friday evening, lost to the Barbarians 27-24.
