Investec Champions Cup winners Bordeaux party into the night

50,000 people turned out to welcome Investec Champions Cup winning side Union Bordeaux-Bègles back.
If you thought the festivities for winning a club-first Investec Champions Cup would stop in Cardiff, think again.
Union Bordeaux-Bègles did make sure to enjoy their time in the Welsh capital after their win, but they also were welcomed home by rapturous crowds filling the Bordeaux streets on their return to France.
With the side travelling back across The Channel the morning after their victory, Sunday, they made their way round the city on an open-top bus parade to show off their title to their hoards of supporters that same afternoon.
It’s thought around 50,000 piled out onto the streets to celebrate the return of their heroes.
And this was just the tip of the iceberg in terms of weekend attendances. Having set up a municipal giant screen on which to broadcast the Final live, 25,000 supporters turned up to witness history.
After making their noise heard home and away throughout UBB’s entire Investec Champions Cup winning campaign, the Bordeaux fans got to bask in the collective glory of a first star.
Captain for the Final Maxime Lucu was quick to thank the thousands of fans that showed up in the city to welcome them home:
“I didn’t think so many fans would come out and see us. We’re so happy to have moments like this together. Thank you to all our fans for their unwavering support throughout the entire season.”
