Kolisi escapes sanction for alleged headbutt
World Rugby has turned a blind eye to what seemed to be a clear headbutt from Springbok captain Siya Kolisi.
Kolisi in the 30th minute of the Springbok win over Scotland, appeared to strike Scottish midfielder Peter Horne with the back of his head, as Horne held him down on the ground at a ruck.
When probed on the incident, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus said:
“I really haven’t seen it.”
“I can’t comment on something I didn’t see myself, but I know the person and the man he is, so it would surprise me.
“I’m pretty sure the citing commissioner will do his job there. Whatever it is – if it’s serious and Siya’s in the wrong, then what comes our way we have to accept. But I haven’t seen the incident so I can’t really comment.”
World Rugby’s citing policy states that the siting commissioner has 24 hours after the final whistle, meaning action would needed to have been taken by around 21:00 on Sunday.
