De Bruin signs new Lions deal
Swys de Bruin has been given a new deal with the Lions to remain as head coach of the Johannesburg franchise until 2021.
Head coach Swys de Bruin has signed a new two-year contract with the Lions.
De Bruin took the reins after Johan Ackermann departed to join Gloucester following the 2017 Super Rugby season.
The 59-year-old guided the Johannesburg franchise to the final last year and they have made a promising start to the 2019 campaign, sitting top of the South African Conference.
De Bruin has been rewarded with a deal that will run until 2021.
Lions chief executive Rudolf Straeuli said: “Swys will remain at the Lions and has extended his contract with the franchise until 2021.
“Lions Rugby remains a system-driven franchise focused on stability within the structures of our players and coaches.”
There was more good news for the Lions on Tuesday when it was announced flanker Cyle Brink will return against the Sharks on Friday after a seven-month absence due to a knee injury.
