Foden signs for New York franchise as player-coach

Ben Foden has signed for new Major League Rugby franchise Rugby United New York as a player-coach after leaving Northampton Saints.

The former England international had announced his intention to leave the Saints at the end of the 2017-18 season and, following weeks of speculation, a move to New York was confirmed on Thursday.

And Foden now believes he can help grow the sport in a developing market.

“I’m excited to announce that I’ll be joining MLR next season with Rugby United New York,” he said. “It’s a new franchise in the most exciting city in the world.
