Sergeal Petersen’s individual attacking genius kept the Cheetahs top of the Currie Cup table after six matches.
Petersen scored in the 81st minute as the Cheetahs beat the Lions 30-24. It was the Cheetahs fifth win in six games but it was also the Lions fifth Currie Cup defeat. The Lions, with a solitary competition win, are last.
The Sharks also left it late in Cape Town to deny Western Province. The hosts lead 20-14 after 70 minutes but the Sharks scored in the 75th minute through Inny Radebe and Rhyno Smith’s conversion made it 21-20.
The win consolidated the Sharks position in the competition’s top two.
On Friday night the Pumas crushed John Mitchell’s Bulls 51-15. The Bulls are sixth in a competition of seven teams.
