Stormers fight back to see off Bulls
The Stormers came from behind to edge past the Bulls in the Super Rugby, while the Sharks crushed the Highlanders.
The Stormers secured local bragging rights as they edged out the Bulls 29-17 in a pulsating Super Rugby derby in Cape Town on Saturday.
Tries from Damian Willemse and Wilco Louw put the Stormers in control early on, the hosts racing into a 12-0 lead inside 11 minutes.
Lood de Jager and Jason Jenkins, in addition to a Handre Pollard penalty, saw the Bulls fight back, but they were unable to stop a resurgent Stormers.
SP Marais set them in motion after finding a gap in the defence before his penalty extended the lead. Ramone Samuels then wrapped things up with a 62nd-minute try.
The win moves the Stormers onto 22 points in the South African Conference, while the Bulls remain rooted to the bottom of the same league on 20.
In the day’s other late game, the Sharks ran out comfortable 38-12 winners over the Highlanders at Kings Park.
