Whiteley concern for Springboks

Warren Whiteley is expected to be out for at least another two months as the former South Africa captain continues to struggle with a knee injury.

Whiteley had hoped to return late in the regular Super Rugby season, but the Lions captain says he will be out until at least the start of August.

The number eight will be short of time to prove his fitness ahead of the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

He told Rapport: “I’m not 100 per cent sure how long I’ll be out for, but we’re looking at about two months.

“I’ll take my time to ensure that I’m 100 per cent fit when I return. I’ll probably play in the Currie Cup first and hopefully I get enough game time to come in contention for Springbok selection.”

The unfortunate Whiteley spent a spell on the sidelines earlier in the season after sustaining a pectoral injury.
