South African inspires Scots to record win against Wallabies

South African Byron McGuigan, schooled at Milnerton High in Cape Town and a product of Western Province’s Rugby Academy, scored two tries in Scotland’s stunning 53-24 win against the Wallabies at Murrayfield.

McGuigan, like Springbok Test Centurion Percy Montgomery, was born in Namibia but spent all his childhood and did all his schooling in Cape Town.

McGuigan played for Cape Town club side, Hamiltons, in 2012 when they won the Melrose 7s and he also played for the Border Bulldogs.

He was a late replacement for Stuart Hogg and proved an instant hit with a sell-out Murrayfield crowd. He was in the match 23 that lost to the All Blacks a week ago.

McGuigan, who plays for the Sale Sharks, qualified for Scotland through a Glasgow-born grandmother.

The Scots scored eight tries, with seven of them coming when Australia were reduced to 14 players when prop Sekope Kepu was red carded.

Australia were ahead 12-10 when Kepu was red carded in the 39th minute and the the next 41 minutes proved a demolition job.
