Damian Willemse is the STECO Hybrid Power Tools Hero of the Week
Two of South Africa’s finest No 15s showcased their marvellous talents in the United Rugby Championship play-offs. Both are World Cup winners.
Damian Willemse epitomised what a hybrid is in the Stormers URC quarter-final win against Cardiff in Cape Town. He is the STECO Hero of the Week.
STECO RUGBY PARTNERSHIP
Each week, on Keo & Zels, the player whose contribution screams hybrid in a skill set or positional switches is acknowledged.
This past weekend Zels could not look past the all-round performance of Stormers fullback Damian Willemse.
The multi-talented Willemse, the youngest double World Cup winner, and a Stormers centurion, dazzled on attack against Cardiff and was the picture of calm defensively.
Willemse made his Stormers debut as an 18 year-old and a decade later his enthusiasm for the jersey is still teenage-like.
Zels singled out Willemse’s try creation and assist for Leolin Zas’s bulldozer five pointer.
Willemse and Zas were both injury doubts after crashing into each other at Stormers training on the Wednesday pre the Cardiff quarter-final, but they doubled in effort and delight in combining for a special try.

Zels, who has never been shy to applaud Willie le Roux, was as gushing at the veteran’s ability to create so much space for his wingers. Le Roux’s vision as a playmaker has always been his strength and he was excellent in the Bulls 45-14 win against Ireland’s Munster.
Le Roux set up Bulls and Boks winger Kurt-Lee Arendse for the first of his two tries and was a constant threat on attack.
Le Roux, who last month went past 400 professional matches, has been one of the best for the Bulls in the URC and Investec Champions Cup this season.
