Rebels interested in signing Cooper, says Genia
Will Genia has revealed Quade Cooper could soon join him at the Rebels, with head coach David Wessels interested in the fly-half.
The Rebels are interested in signing Australian fly-half Quade Cooper, according to Will Genia.
Cooper has made 70 Test appearances for the Wallabies but did not feature once in the 2018 Super Rugby season for the Reds, with head coach Brad Thorn opting for a “change of direction”.
The 30-year-old will be in National Rugby Championship action when Brisbane City take on Fijian Drua on Saturday, yet a return to Super Rugby could soon be on the cards.
Rebels scrum-half Genia, who is in the Australia team to face South Africa in the Rugby Championship this weekend, revealed head coach David Wessels is eager to add Cooper to his squad.
“I know Dave is definitely keen on him and wanted to have a few conversations with him,” Genia told rugby.com.au.
“Hopefully they can come to some sort of agreement. He’s a world-class player.
“To have someone like that in the playmaking role at the Rebels would be huge.
“That [fly-half] is probably our biggest missing piece.”
