Rassie Erasmus is set to join the new Springbok management this week. It's been two weeks since Bok head coach Heyneke Meyer's appointment, and plans to build him a strong support staff have been ongoing ever since. According to the Rapport, Saru is now set to finalise his first recruit over the next several days, with former Stormers director of coaching Rassie Erasmus set to take on a technical advisor role - the same role he played shortly before the Springboks' World Cup campaign. Contract negotiations are expected to happen this week. The 39-year-old has been connected to several jobs ... Read Article7 Feb 2012
The Stormers' hopes of implementing a territory-based approach will continue to be hampered for as long as they lack a flyhalf with the necessary kicking prowess or tactical intelligence. The manner of last week's defeat to the Cheetahs was all too familiar. While the Stormers have boasted a proud defensive record in recent times, they have usually struggled against opponents that match them upfront. In 2011 the Stormers battled against teams like the Crusaders (twice) and Reds because they lost the collisions as well as the battle for territory. They failed to produce the tactical kicking ... The EP Kings have taken former Griquas flyhalf Earl Rose on a month-long trial. The 28-year-old was released by Griquas at the end of the 2011 Currie Cup campaign after only spending one season with the Kimberley union. Rose will now hope to impress First Division losing finalists the EP Kings over the next four weeks to earn a contract. 'Earl is with us on a trial agreement,' EP Kings head coach Alan Solomons told keo.co.za. 'He will be on trial until 17 February.' Rose has suffered a series of disappointments over the last couple years. Prior to his exit at Griquas, he spent five years ... Read Article8 Nov 2011
The Springboks will play Argentina in their first game of next year's Rugby Championship, the four-team southern-hemisphere tournament replacing the existing Tri-Nations. An agreement confirming Argentina’s participation was signed in Auckland recently by the Sanzar Joint Venture partners after several months of negotiations with the Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR) and the International Rugby Board (IRB). The new-look tournament has been given a new name and a new fixture line-up with two Tests on each match day. Each participant plays home and away matches against each of the other three ... Leigh Halfpenny kicked a last-minute penalty to give Wales a 23-21 victory over Ireland in a compelling Six Nations clash in Dublin. There will be conjecture about the validity of the penalty that proved decisive. Stephen Ferris was called for a dangerous tackle but television replays suggest the decision was harsh. It was a shame that a match of this calibre was decided by a controversial call but it was an epic nonetheless. The quality was as good and sometimes better than anything you'll see in the Rugby Championship this season. The sides' tries were excellent in their construction and ... Former Wales wing Shane Williams will retire from all rugby at the end of the European season. The 34-year-old ended his Test career against the Wallabies in Cardiff last December. He then signed a contract extension with his club Ospreys until the end of the 2013 season, but both parties have agreed to release the veteran from the deal a year early. Ospreys have announced that Williams will then take up an ambassadorial role at the club, where he 'will promote rugby in and around the region whilst also working in conjunction with the Ospreys' existing and future commercial partners'. Shimlas thrashed defending champions UCT 38-10 while Maties, Pukke and Tuks won their matches in the opening round of the Varsity Cup. At the Greenmile in Cape Town, Shimlas hooker PW van Vuuren, No 8 Fanie van der Walt and scrumhalves Kevin Luiters and Pieter Rademan secured the students from Free State a bonus-point win. Wing Nico Scheepers also added four conversions and three penalties. UCT could only add two tries through fullback Dillyn Leyds and skipper Ntsolo Setlaba as they lost their first opening game since 2009. Three-time champions Stellenbosch University recorded a 52-2 drubbing ... Read ArticleJohannesburg 5:00pm - 7:00pm (SAST)

New Zealand won the Cup while the Springbok Sevens secured the Plate on day two of the Wellington Sevens. The home team delivered a strong first-half performance in their 24-7 win over Fiji to seal the Cup final early. The Kiwis scored four unanswered tries through Tomasi Cama, DJ Forbes and Frank Halai (2). Fiji hit back via Waisea Nayacalevu and kept New Zealand scoreless after the restart, but they couldn't surpass the massive half-time deficit. Meanwhile, Paul Treu's charges triumphed 24-0 as they dominated an ill-disciplined and fatigued Tongan outfit in the Plate final. They cruised ... Read Article11 Jan 2012
The International Rugby Board are considering hosting some of Wales' World Cup matches in 2015 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. England won the right to host the event and organisers are expected to make use of some of the country's numerous world-class football stadia. The venues will be confirmed once the tournament dates are finalised with the pool draw to follow in November. However, IRB chief executive Mike Miller said travel logistics could make the 75 000-seater Millennium an option. 'Yes there is an issue of Wales playing at "home", but for people in the west of England, ... Read ArticleSorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.
