STECO Hybrid Power Tool Hero of the Week is a Shark

The Sharks haven’t won much this season but individually their players have won big moments.

Keo and Zels were at odds as to which player gets the STECO Hybrid Power Tool Hero of the Week, but Zels won the day.

Every week on the Keo & Zels Rugby Podcast the boys pick a player and moments from a match that defines the power in a hybrid tool, courtesy of partners Steco/Ryobi.

André Esterhuizen is the ambassador, the ultimate hybrid player. I want to give him the award every week just because of his impact for the Sharks.

Zels
Andre telling the ref he knocked the ball on while scoring that was great sportsmanship. But the hero has to be the hat-trick hero, the Boogeyman Jurenzo Julius.

His first try: he gets the ball in the 22, dummies one wing, spins out of the scrumhalf’s tackle, goes backwards towards the tryline, fends off the 12, then powers through the other wing’s tackle.

I’m not sure what more he’s supposed to do to win this award.

Keo
Honourable mention for Sacha (Feinberg-Mngomezulu), always. 21 points, tries saved, what he does on the field, the time he has on the ball. I thought Sacha was outstanding for the Stormers against Ulster. Everyone always looks at points scored but he does so much off the ball and his defence and ability to scramble on defence, because of his electric pace, is the most under appreciated aspect of his game.

But I agree with Jurenzo Julius. Also, the guy inside him, André the Giant, has flourished as a captain and leader.

Talking about hybrids, your mate Leicester Fainga’anuku for the Crusaders. He is the player all focus has been on in New Zealand’s Super Rugby Pacific since the Crusaders started using him in a hybrid role as flanker, centre and winger.

Zels
Playing seven and 12, mate. He was brilliant against the Blues. A couple of chip kicks too. We know what he can do on the wing. I think his best position is in the midfield. That is where I would play him. Super Rugby is not Test rugby and I am not convinced about him as a No 7 flanker. He may find it isn’t as comfortable in the pack playing Test rugby against the Springboks.

Congrats to the Junior Boks, who have featured here in the past fortnight for winning Sanzaar’s under 20 Rugby Championship title.
