Injured Halfpenny could make Pro14 final – Pivac
Scarlets will be without Leigh Halfpenny as they look to continue their Pro14 title defence in the semi-finals on Friday.
Leigh Halfpenny will miss Scarlets’ Pro14 semi-final against Glasgow Warriors, but coach Wayne Pivac is hopeful the Wales star could return for the final if his side get there.
The 29-year-old full-back suffered a hamstring injury against the Cheetahs on May 5 and he will not recover in time to play any part in Friday’s last-four clash.
However, should Scarlets again reach the final as they attempt to defend their title, Pivac is more optimistic of having Halfpenny available.
“Leigh is out [of this weekend’s match],” the coach said. “There was a small tear there but, with any luck, should we get through the semi-final, he may be available for the final.”
There is better news for the semi-final on New Zealander Johnny McNicholl, who has been out with a shoulder problem.
“Johnny has been training really well for the last couple of weeks,” Pivac added. “The last obstacle for him was full contact and he has done that and come through, so he is available for selection.”
