Hurricanes hold off Reds
A high scoring game at Westpac stadium saw the Hurricanes emerge 38-34 victors over the Reds, in what marks their 14th victory out of their last 16 games against the Queensland side.
Early tries from Beauden Barrett and Ben Lam saw the Canes gain a quick lead, however strong countering from the Reds saw the home side go into halftime leading by only four points (24-20).
The game would end with the same four point differential, as a late try from Samu Kerevi bought the Reds within a winning margin that they were ultimately unable to capitalise on and the Canes reaped the rewards of a good second half display.
Beauden Barrett put in a strong performance, kicking five from five conversions and a penalty, as well as crossing for a try, while Ben Lam continued his hot try scoring form with a brace.
Hurricanes: Tries – B. Barrett, Lam (2), Thompson, Louis; Conversions – B. Barrett (5) ; Penalty – B. Barrett
Reds: Tries – Tupou, Daugunu, Petaia, Kerevi; Conversions – Lance (4); Penalties: Lance (2).
