In-form Lyon see off Clermont, Castres down Racing
Lyon claimed a third successive win and are breathing down Clermont’s necks after beating them at Matmut Stade de Gerland,
Lyon closed the gap on second-placed Clermont Auvergne to just four points by consigning them to a 19-13 Top 14 defeat on Sunday.
Jonathan Wisniewski booted 15 points as in-form Lyon claimed a third successive win at Matmut Stade de Gerland, striking a blow to their fellow title hopefuls.
Lyon centre Charlie Ngatai scored the opening try after Patricio Fernandez put Clermont in front from the tee and Wisniewski’s penalty gave the home side a seven-point advantage.
Paul Jedrasiak’s converted try made it honours even at the break and Lyon went on to win it courtesy of another three penalties from Wisniewski, with Clermont only able to muster one successful shot at goal from Fernandez in the second half.
Castres moved above Racing 92 into seventh place, boosting their play-off bid with an 18-9 victory.
Benjamin Urdapilleta kicked six penalties in a try-less contest at Stade Pierre Fabre.
