Stormers and Sharks set for Bok-loaded Cape Town blockbuster
24 Springboks are on show in Cape Town on Saturday and a crowd in excess of 40 000 is expected at the DHL Stadium.
DHL Stadium is set for one of the biggest South African derbies of the URC season when the DHL Stormers host the Sharks in Cape Town on Saturday.
Keo and Zels believe this has all the makings of a Test match in club colours, with Springbok quality across both squads and several fascinating individual battles.
The headline contest could be at scrum time, where Wilco Louw and Ox Nché are expected to be central to a brutal set-piece battle. Keo joked that he would happily pay to watch those two go at each other for 80 minutes, while Zels described the scrum battle as one of the key elements of the match.
The Sharks arrive with confidence and momentum under JP Pietersen. They beat the Stormers twice last season, first catching them cold in Cape Town and then backing it up in Durban. Since then, JP’s side have continued to build, and their recent win against Leinster added further belief.
Keo highlighted the influence of André Esterhuizen, Ox Nché, Phepsi Buthelezi and the Sharks’ outside backs, while Zels praised the mix in the Durban side: hardened Springbok campaigners, hungry youngsters and useful squad players all pushing standards.
For the Stormers, the pressure is clear. They return home after a frustrating defeat to Edinburgh, where the lineout malfunctioned badly. Zels explained that lineout accuracy is not just about the thrower. It is a full system involving the hooker, jumpers, lifters, movement, timing and misdirection.
The Stormers were one of the most accurate lineout teams in the URC last season, but Edinburgh exposed them, and the Sharks are one of the best sides in the competition at disrupting opposition ball. That battle could decide territory, pressure and points.
There is also huge excitement around the return of several Springboks to the Stormers environment. Zels said the mood at the HPC has lifted significantly, with Siya Kolisi and Wilco Louw among those bringing Test-match buzz back into the squad.

The occasion also carries a historical edge. The Stormers will wear their black away kit at home, reviving the Men in Black theme from 1999. A dedicated block at DHL Stadium will also bring together former players and their families, adding another emotional layer to the derby.

Keo called it psychological warfare, remembering the famous 1999 Stormers side that beat the Sharks in Cape Town. Zels enjoyed the revival, but warned that both sides will care more about the scoreboard than the jersey colour.
Both still backed the Stormers to edge it, with Keo predicting 25-20 and Zels going 24-18.
