England could still pick Cipriani despite training camp snub
England attack coach Scott Wisemantel said Danny Cipriani was still a chance to feature in the November internationals.
Danny Cipriani has not been “written off” by England for their November internationals, according to attack coach Scott Wisemantel.
The Gloucester fly-half, 30, was left out of Eddie Jones’ 36-man squad for a training camp in Bristol.
But England have left the door open for Cipriani to be picked for the internationals in November, when they will face South Africa, New Zealand, Japan and Australia.
Wisemantel said Cipriani, who has played 16 Tests, was still an option for England, who included fly-halves Owen Farrell and George Ford in the training camp.
“At this stage, there were two spots for the camp and, unfortunately, Cipriani was not in those two spots,” he told Sky Sports News.
“But by no means does it mean that Danny has been written off. That is where it sits.
“It is a short camp. We needed to embed a few little ideas and get them together but by no means is it a done deal regarding selection for November.
“Anyone who has been in the wider training squad is considered aren’t they? If they play out of their skin, they have to be considered.”
Cipriani ended a three-year absence from the England squad in June, playing in two Tests against the Springboks.
