Five touring essentials for 7s player Harry Jones
Worldrugby.org caught up with Canada’s Harry Jones to find out the five essential things he brings on tour
1. NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES
“This is a must bring for tour, I forgot them on one of our trips last year and was seated next to a mum and her baby … that was a long 10-hour trip! I’ve got a set of PSB speakers which make those 10-14 hour flights much more manageable. Getting some shut-eye on the long flights helps with recovery after a tournament and helps with jet lag on the way to tournaments.”
2. WORKOUT BANDS
“Recovery gear and bands are essential, they help keep the body fresh before and after tournaments. Recovery kit like compression socks, leggings, a humidifier mask for flights and bands all help with rehab and recovery, keeping this old body ticking over.”
3. PAN AM GAMES CANADA SCARF
“I started bringing this Canadian scarf on tour with me a few years back, it has the Canadian flag on it and is a reminder of home. It’s great having a piece of Canada come with us on tour, it’s a good reminder of the amazing support from everyone back home.
4. GOPRO
“Can’t forget the GoPro, it always comes in handy when we have a bit of downtime. It’s great being able to document some of the fun things we get to do while on tour and being able to take your mind off rugby for a bit and just relax is an important part of it all.”
5. HEADSPACE APP
“I use this App called Headspace. It focuses on things like breathing, as well as the mental side of being on the pitch and staying focused. We are on planes all the time, away from home, and moving all around so I find this App helps slow things down a bit during the crazy times of the season.”
