Geduld’s golden touch lights up Blitzboks
Justin Geduld scored two tries and kicked four conversions in the Blitzboks’ most impressive 33-12 dismantling of England in Sydney but the match of the day belong to Olympic champions Fiji, who scored a miracle ‘énd to end’ try two minutes after the hooter to beat New Zealand 19-17.
New Zealand, winners of the Cape Town Sevens, still qualified for the Cup quarter-finals because of two earlier wins.
World Series champions South Africa had earlier not conceded a point in dispatching Papa New Guinea 50-0 and Spain 38-0.
But it’s the win against England that was most inspiring, more so because the English took an early 7-0 lead. Thereafter it was all South Africa, as they changed ends 31-7 ahead and finished with a five try to two advantage.
Seabelo Senatla also grabbed a brace and veteran Cecil Afrika completed the scoring.
South Africa plays Kenya in the quarterfinal.
