Stunning Simelane is Keo & Zels STECO PowerPlay of URC Round 2
Wandisile Simelane’s stunning second half try for the Stormers against the Ospreys is what Keo & Zels chose as their STECO PowerPlay of URC Round 2.
Every week, Keo & Zels, look for that one moment that screams power, potency and speaks to authenticity of those players good enough to shape the future of the game in this country, and Simelane’s five pointer had it all in the Stormers 26-10 win against the Ospreys in Cape Town.
Simelane, formerly of the Lions and Bulls, joined the Stormers 18 months ago, and his tenure has been highlighted by some magical moments. He was prominent in the Stormers winning the official URC Try of the Season for 2024/25, which was finished by veteran loose-forward Deon Fourie.
Simelane played mostly at outside centre in the 2024/25 season, but with Damian Willemse and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu with the Springboks winning the 2025 Castle Rugby Championship, and Warrick Gelant injured, Stormers coach John Dobson instilled Simelane to start the 2025/26 URC season at fullback.
The player’s response has been terrific, and Simelane was the popular SuperSport choice for Player of the Match against the Ospreys. He was particularly effective running the ball back and he often bamboozled the defence with his side-step and an in step that sends the opposition the other way.
Dobson lauded Simelane’s desire to attack and the growth in his individual play in the past season. Dobson tends to give his attacking No 15s licence to thrill and Simelane is playing with the freedom that comes with the backing of the coach.

Simelane lauded Dobson, the coaches, captain Ruan Nel and his colleagues for backing him.
‘My teammates have helped me a lot. Warrick [Gelant], Dan [du Plessis] and Ruan [Nel], our coaches – the amount of time and energy spent towards the team comes from a place of us all actually wanting to do well. It sounds very cliché, but when they picked me at 15, the guys around me made it so easy for me to just adapt,’ said Simelane.
